Switch to Advanced Digital X-Ray System Provides Safety, Convenience for Patients

To continue providing our patients with the highest level of dental care possible, we’ve equipped our practice with Computed Dental Radiography, the latest advancement in dental x-ray technology. The CDR system is a digital replacement of the conventional x-ray system that was previously used in the diagnosis of dental problems.

Developed by Schick Technologies, Inc., our new CDR system is a computerized imaging system that utilizes an electronic sensor instead of x-ray film. The sensors produce high-resolution electronic images that appear instantaneously on a chairside computer monitor. Images can be magnified up to 300x for a better and more accurate diagnosis of dental conditions than ever before. And with the immediate on-screen results, our patients are better able to understand their treatment needs and are more informed about their options for care.

“Digital x-rays provide multiple benefits for our patients,” says Dr. Widick. “First, instead of having to wait 6-7 minutes to develop conventional x-rays, digital images are instantaneous. That frees more time to spend with patients to discuss their dental health needs.”

“Second, with the 17-inch chairside monitor, patients are better able to see and understand the dental health issues we are discussing. Rather than having to take our word for it as we look at a small conventional x-ray on a wall-mounted lightbox, the patient and we can together view an image and discuss a treatment plan.”

Dr. Widick points out that the Schick CDR system exposes patients to about 90% less radiation than conventional x-rays. And, because it requires no film to process, it not only cuts down on the time spent away from the patient but is environmentally friendly as well. Without the requirement of harsh chemicals to aid in the x-ray film developing process, there is no hazardous waste to dispose.

Like conventional x-rays, digital images are covered under most insurance plans and are taken only as necessary and as recommended by the American Dental Association. Electronic images are easily transported via CD or email to insurance companies or to specialists for advanced care.

“We truly think the CDR system is a tremendous advantage for our patients,” says Dr. Widick. “The images we receive are better than conventional x-rays, they’re faster and they’re safer. We’re excited to add this benefit to our ongoing focus on providing the best dental care possible.”

For more information about the Schick CDR system, feel free to ask anyone on the Dr. Widick staff. We’re excited to discuss it with you.
